Atsenhaien:ton (Kenneth Deer) is from the Bear Clan of the Kanienʼkehá꞉ka (Mohawk Nation) of the Kahnawake territory. He is an award-winning journalist, an educator and an internationally-known Indigenous rights activist.

He was also an active participant in the development of the UN Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which took 25 years to draft and was adopted in 2007 by 144 states, with the exception of Canada and four other states.

He also holds an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Concordia University and was the 2010 recipient of the National Aboriginal Achievement Award.

He has been to every single meeting of the UN Working Group on Indigenous Populations (UNWGIP) from 1987 to 2006 and still attend to every sessions of the Expert Mechanism on the rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) and the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII).

As part of this project, he participated in the 2013 Symposium and the 2015 Symposium.

También participó activamente en la elaboración de la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, cuya redacción duró 25 años y fue adoptada en 2007 por 144 Estados, con la excepción de Canadá y cuatro otros Estados.

También obtuvo un doctorado Honoris Causa de la Universidad de Concordia y recibió en 2010 el Premio Nacional de Logros Aborígenes.

Ha asistido a todas las reuniones del Grupo de Trabajo de la ONU sobre las Poblaciones Indígenas (GTPI) de 1987 a 2006 y sigue asistiendo a todas las sesiones del Mecanismo de Expertos sobre los Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas (MEDPI) y del Foro Permanente para las Cuestiones Indígenas.

En el marco de este proyecto, participó en el Simposio de 2013 y en el Simposio de 2015.
