Mary Simat; out of her passion for her Maasai community, she left her teaching career to champion for the Rights of women and girls in her community. She has been the chairperson for the Indigenous Peoples of Africa Coordinating Committee (IPACC) and travelled many times to attend UN conferences in Geneva and New York. She is the executive director of MAWEED; Maasai Women for Education and Development. Alongside other educated Maasai women; she is teaching the community about the importance of sending young girls to school; and teaching women to become economically empowered. She has been elected in 2017 as a member of the County Assembly of the Narok County in Kenya.

As part of this project, she participated in the 2013 Symposium, the 2015 Symposium and the 2017 Kenya Workshop and she was a member of the organizing committee of the 2015 Symposium and the 2017 Kenya Workshop.

Mary Simat; por su pasión por su comunidad maasai, dejó su carrera docente para defender los derechos de las mujeres y las niñas de su comunidad. Ha sido presidenta del Comité de Coordinación de los Pueblos Indígenas de África (IPACC) y ha viajado muchas veces para atender a conferencias de la ONU en Ginebra y Nueva York. Es la directora ejecutiva de MAWEED, Mujeres Masai por la Educación y el Desarrollo. Junto con otras mujeres maasai con formación, enseña a la comunidad la importancia de enviar a las niñas a la escuela y de enseñar a las mujeres a empoderarse económicamente. Ha sido elegida en 2017 como miembro de la Asamblea del Condado de Narok en Kenia.
