Salvador Palomino empieza su entrevista aclarando la noción de “indígena” que es, sobre todo, una noción política.

Habla de su participación, en las décadas de los 70 y 80, en las conferencias indígenas de Barbados y Ollantaytambo (Perú) y de sus cargos de coordinador general alterno en el CISA (Consejo Indio de Sud América), y de director de la revista “Pueblo Indio”. Luego, explica las dificultades a las que tuvo que enfrentarse durante la represión que existía en la década de los 80, en el contexto del movimiento guerrillero peruano Sendero Luminoso y su partida a Dinamarca.

Por último, anima a los jóvenes indígenas a seguir luchando para defender y preservar la integridad de sus comunidades y territorios, sus lenguas, sus espiritualidades y sus conocimientos tradicionales. Aboga por: “buscar la armonía en la reciprocidad [...] acordándonos de la Madre Tierra, del Padre Sol, de la Madre Luna, el cosmos y sus energías porque no somos seres diferentes. Somos parte de la naturaleza, somos el microcosmos dentro del macrocosmos, y ahí tenemos que buscar la armonía”.

Salvador Palomino begins his interview by clarifying the concept of “indigenous”, which is mainly a political concept.

He talks about his participation in indigenous conferences in Barbados and Ollantaytambo, Peru, in the 1970s and 1980s. He also talks about his posts as substitute coordinator for CISA (Indian Council of South America), and director of the magazine “Pueblo Indio”. Then, he explains the difficulties encountered during the repression in the 1980s, in the context of the Peru’s guerrilla movement known as Shining Path, and his departure for Denmark.

Finally, he encourages the young indigenous generation to keep fighting to defend and preserve the integrity of their communities and territories, their languages, their spiritualities and their traditional knowledge. He advises: “to seek harmony in reciprocity [...] while keeping Mother Earth, Father Sun, Mother Moon, the cosmos and its energies in mind, because we are not different living beings. We are a part of nature, we are the microcosm of the macrocosm, and we have to look for harmony right there”.
