In this interview, conducted during the workshop by one of the young participants, Ann-erika White Bird was asked about her role and current challenges in her community and what it means for her to be indigenous and the main message she takes away from her participation in the workshop.

Ann-erika White Bird is an artist, poet and journalist from Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. Her writing includes poetry and short stories. Her beadwork is part of the Denver Art Museum’s permanent collection.
She also founded and was the editor of Lakota Voice, an independent online media venue and news source.
Her drive is to address problems in order to find solutions so the generations coming up have a better world in which to live and thrive.
