Paulene Shebala-Abeyta

In this interview, conducted during the workshop by one of the young participants, Paulene Shebala-Abeyta was asked about her role and current challenges in her community and what it means for her to be indigenous and the main message she takes away from her participation in the workshop.

Paulene Shebala-Abeyta is Diné and she holds a degree in Communication & Native American Studies at the University of New Mexico and a Master of Law at the University of Arizona.

She and her husband, Chad, reside in To’Hajiilee, New Mexico with their two children.

Paulene’s interests include advocacy for Indigenous issues, utilizing different mediums to educate and empower people, and networking and collaborating with others on local, state, tribal, national, and international Indigenous projects.
