Ghillar [Euahlayi tribal name] aka Michael Eckford/Anderson, sheep farmer and Aboriginal land rights activist, was born in Brewarrina, New South Wales (NSW). After studying Law he worked at the NSW Office of Public Prosecutions, and later taught Political Science at the Universities of New England and Newcastle.

On Australia Day 1972 he was one of four Aboriginal activists who set up the original "tent embassy" opposite the old Parliament House building.

Michael Anderson, who now runs a successful sheep farm near the NSW town of Goodooga, remains active on land rights and other indigenous issues, and has been involved in drafting a Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the World for the United Nations.

He attended the 1981 Conference in Geneva as a Delegate for the The National Aboriginal Conference (NAC).

Michael Anderson also wrote a paper for this Symposium accessible above next to his picture.
