I am Kileni Fernando; I am a !Xung San speaker and I live in Omatako (Valley) Rest Camp; Tsumkwe-West Namibia. I was born in M’Kata; a village in Tsumkwe-West; but moved and grew up in Ombili Foundation; it is a farm where San People were resettled in 1990. I graduated from high school in 2009 and moved back to Tsumkwe-West. In 2010; I was an assistant teacher in my village Omatako Valley for a project which was called Pilgrim; which is now called Kalahari New Hope. I was given a chance to study in 2012 as a law student at Triumphant College and enrolled as Bachelor of Laws student with the Open University of Tanzania in 2013; through Triumphant College. With students in 2014; we came tighter/gathered to from an organisation called //Ana-Djeh San Trust; which was formally registered as a Trust with the Masters of High Court in 2015.

Through //Ana-Djeh San Trust; I am now a coordinator of the Namibia San Council (NSC) to coordinate their work and activities as the members are all in the villages and only represent their own communities and issues on the Council. My current interests consist in the work I do with the Council; working on the project with the Museums Association of Namibia on San Artefacts in Museum Africa in Johannesburg; South Africa. We also work on a mobile exhibition of the culture and history of the San communities in Namibia.

The three videos I am going to take will be on the land; women’s rights and traditional knowledge of the San in Namibia. Land is one of the burning issues going on in Namibia; especially in the San communities. Traditional knowledge is connected to the land and territories of the San. I also wish to look at the challenges we face regarding land and traditional knowledge.

As part of this project, she participated in the 2017 Kenya Workshop as a young indigenous delegate from the San People in Namibia.

Me llamo Kileni Fernando y soy del Pueblo San. Vivo en el campamento Omatako Rest Camp en Tsumkwe-West; Namibia. Nací en M’Kata; una aldea en el distrito Tsumkwe-West pero me fui a la Ombili Foundation y crecí aquí. Es una granja en la cual el Pueblo San fue reubicado en 1990. Me gradué de la escuela secundaria en 2009 y regresé al distrito Tsumkwe-West. En 2010; trabajé como profesora adjunta en mi aldea Omatako Valley en el marco de un proyecto que se llamaba entonces Pilgrim (literalmente ‘Peregrino’) y se llama ahora Kalahari New Hope. Tuve la suerte de poder estudiar en 2012 como estudiante de derecho del Triumphant College y fui inscrita en la Licenciatura de Derecho de la Open University de Tanzania en 2013 gracias al Triumphant College. Nos juntamos en 2014 con otros estudiantes para formar una organización llamada //Ana-Djeh San Trust que se vio oficialmente reconocida como fundación por el Tribunal Supremo de Namibia en 2015.

En el marco de //Ana-Djeh San Trust; trabajo como coordinadora del Consejo san de Namibia (NSC) para coordinar su trabajo y actividades puesto que todos los miembros viven en aldeas y representan solamente sus propias comunidades y sus propios asuntos en el Council. Me intereso actualmente al trabajo que efectúo con el Council; me enfocó en el proyecto con la asociación de los museos de Namibia (Museums Association of Namibia) sobre los artefactos San del Museum Africa en Johannesburgo; Suráfrica. Trabajamos también sobre una exposición móvil sobre la cultura y la historia de las comunidades San en Namibia.

Los tres videos que filmaré serán centrados en la tierra; los derechos de las mujeres y los conocimientos tradicionales de los Sans en Namibia. El territorio es uno de los asuntos candentes de Namibia; especialmente en las comunidades San. Los conocimientos tradicionales están conectados a la tierra y a los territorios de los Sans. Deseo también enfocarme a los desafíos a los cuales no enfrentamos en relación con la tierra y los conocimientos tradicionales.

En el marco de este proyecto, participó en el taller de Kenia de 2017 como joven delegada indígena del pueblo San de Namibia.
